Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan recently shared the franchise’s plans to enter the Women’s Premier League (WPL). While CSK is one of the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League, they do not yet have a women’s team. Viswanathan confirmed that the management wants to change this soon.
The CEO explained that the franchise initially missed the chance to join the WPL during the first auction. At that time, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invited bids for five teams. CSK did not secure a slot in that round. However, the team remains committed to supporting women’s cricket. Viswanathan stated that acquiring a WPL team is now a top priority for the organization.

The franchise aims to expand its brand and create more opportunities for female cricketers. Fans have frequently asked when the “Yellow Army” will debut in the women’s league. Viswanathan’s comments provide a clear answer to those supporters. He noted that the management is waiting for the BCCI to announce the next phase of expansion or the sale of new teams.
If the BCCI decides to add more teams to the WPL, CSK will definitely participate in the bidding process. The franchise already operates teams in various global leagues, including South Africa and the United States. Adding a women’s team would complete their portfolio and strengthen their presence in the cricket world.
For now, the management is preparing its strategy to ensure it is ready when the opportunity arrives. Their goal is to deliver the same level of excellence in the WPL as they have in the IPL.
