Probo is no longer legal for real-money trading in India. As of August 2025, the app shut down all its real-money operations after the Indian government passed a new law banning such platforms. If you are still using Probo or planning to, you need to know the full picture.

Probo is a prediction app where users answer yes-or-no questions about real-world events. These events include cricket matches, IPL scores, election results, crypto prices, and celebrity news. If a user’s answer is correct, they earn money.

Probo called this “opinion trading.” But the way it worked, users were essentially betting on outcomes they had little control over. The app offered only two choices, yes or no, with no room for real strategy or skill. That is a key reason why authorities started questioning it.

The Legal Status of Probo in India (2026)

Is Probo a Betting App?

Probo always denied being a betting platform. It positioned itself as an opinion-trading app grounded in knowledge and current awareness.

However, the Enforcement Directorate takes a different view. The ED says that Probo’s outcomes depend more on chance than skill. When a user answers yes or no on a cricket match result or an election outcome, they are not using any expertise. They are making a guess.

The format is simpler than even fantasy sports. Fantasy sports require users to build teams, study player performance, and make multiple strategic decisions. Probo offers no such depth. It is a coin flip dressed up as analysis.

SEBI and the central government also clarified that platforms such as Probo are not recognized as exchanges. They operate without regulatory oversight, which makes them risky for users who deposit real money.

The Enforcement Directorate Raid On Probo

Probo’s legal trouble began well before the 2025 law.

In July 2025, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at four locations linked to Probo in Gurugram and Jind, Haryana. These raids happened under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED acted on multiple police complaints filed in Gurugram, Palwal, and Agra. Users had reported that the app was misleading them by calling itself a skill-based platform.

During the raids, officials froze assets worth ₹284.5 crore. This included fixed deposits, shares, and the contents of three bank lockers.

The ED alleged that Probo generated over ₹1,245 crore in proceeds of crime through gambling disguised as a prediction game. By December 2025, the total attached assets had grown to approximately ₹401.9 crore.

The ED also noted that Probo failed to follow proper KYC (Know Your Customer) procedures. This means users could sign up without verified identities, and minors could access the platform without any checks.

Risks of Using the Probo App in India

Even if you manage to access Probo today, the risks are significant.

  • Legal risk: The 2025 Online Gaming Act bans real-money prediction markets nationwide. Using or depositing money on such a platform could expose you to legal consequences.
  • Financial risk: With over ₹400 crore in assets frozen by the ED, funds held on the platform are at risk. Withdrawals may not process. Funds may be tied up in ongoing legal proceedings.
  • Safety risk: Probo did not enforce proper identity checks. This indicates the platform lacked a robust mechanism to protect user data or prevent misuse.
  • Clone app risk: Since Probo suspended operations, fake apps claiming to be Probo have started appearing. These are scams. Do not download or use any app claiming to be a new version of Probo.

What Should Current Users Do?

If you have money sitting in your Probo account, act now. The company has urged users to withdraw their remaining balances. Do not wait for the investigation to conclude, as frozen assets may complicate future withdrawals.

Stop adding money to the platform. The service is suspended, and there is no confirmed timeline for resumption under the current legal framework.

Follow official news sources for updates. The situation may continue to evolve as court proceedings and ED investigations move forward.

Conclusion: Probo Is Not Legal For Real-Money Use In India As Of 2026

The app shut down its core operations following the passage of the 2025 Online Gaming Act. Before that, the Enforcement Directorate raided its offices, froze over ₹400 crore in assets, and alleged that the platform ran an illegal gambling operation under the cover of opinion trading.

The question of whether Probo was ever truly legal is now largely settled. It was not. If you are a current user, withdraw your funds and discontinue use of the platform. If you are considering trying it, look elsewhere. The legal and financial risks are not worth it.
