Delhi Capitals Women showed real class in the 2026 Women’s Premier League, brushing aside UP Warriorz Women with a seven-wicket win at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on January 14. Lizelle Lee lit up the chase, hammering 67 from just 44 balls and really setting the tone. Marizanne Kapp and Shafali Verma did their part with the ball as well, taking two wickets each and keeping UP Warriorz to 154 for 8.

UP Warriorz had a few bright spots. Meg Lanning led from the front with a solid 54 off 38, and Harleen Deol chipped in with 47off 36. Still, their middle order crumbled in the final overs, and that hurt them in the end. Delhi Capitals took their time, using all 20 overs, but they got the job done with seven wickets still in hand.

Delhi Capitals captain Jemimah Rodrigues won the toss and chose to field first. The decision proved spot-on as the bowlers kept UP Warriorz in check throughout the innings. Marizanne Kapp struck early, and Shafali Verma bowled an economical spell with figures of 2/16 in 4 overs.

UP Warriorz Innings: 154/8 in 20 Overs

UP Warriorz couldn’t have asked for a worse start. Kiran Navgire lasted just three balls before Marizanne Kapp sent her back for a duck. That early blow cranked up the pressure right away. Meg Lanning and Phoebe Litchfield tried to pull things back, stitching together a 47-run stand for the second wicket.

Litchfield looked good, played a few eye-catching shots, made 27 off 20, but then Sneh Rana got her stumped by Lizelle Lee. After that, Meg Lanning took control and linked up with Harleen Deol.

Those two looked solid, adding 85 runs for the third wicket. Lanning was in top gear, cracking nine boundaries and a six on her way to 54. She reached her fifty in just 32 balls, and for a while, it felt like UP Warriorz were cruising towards 180 or more. But then it all unraveled. Chinelle Henry sent Lanning packing, caught at the boundary off Deepti Sharma, and Harleen Deol had to retire out on 47. After that, the batting just fell apart. Shweta Sehrawat (11), Chloe Tryon (1), Sophie Ecclestone (3), and Deepti Sharma (2) all disappeared in a hurry.

Shafali Verma stepped up with the ball, grabbing two big wickets at the end. In the final four overs, UP Warriorz lost six wickets for just 22 runs and somehow crawled to 154 for 8.

Delhi Capitals Chase: 158/3 in 20 Overs

Delhi Capitals came out swinging, thanks to Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee. The two openers piled up 94 runs together right at the start. Shafali played a sharp knock, 36 from 32 balls, peppered with six boundaries, but it was Lee who really stole the show. From her very first ball, she looked unstoppable.

Lee raced to her half-century in just 31 balls, hammering six fours and three sixes along the way. She seemed to have the game on a string, picking gaps and timing her shots perfectly. During the powerplay, DC cruised to 46 without losing a wicket.

Shafali finally fell at 94, and for a moment, things slowed down. But Lee kept her foot on the gas. She eventually got out for 67, caught by Kiran Navgire off Deepti Sharma in the 15th over. By then, Delhi needed just 41 runs from 33 balls, and they still had nine wickets left.

Laura Wolvaardt stuck around with an unbeaten 25, and Jemimah Rodrigues chipped in with 21. Jemimah got out in the 19th over, caught by Harleen Deol off Deepti, but by that point, UP Warriorz were out of options. Marizanne Kapp walked in and wrapped things up, with Delhi Capitals clinching the win on the very last ball.

Key Highlight: Player of the Match – Lizelle Lee’s Explosive Knock

The South African wicketkeeper-batter delivered a match-winning performance:

  • With the bat: 67 off 44 balls (8 fours, 3 sixes) at a strike rate of 152.27
  • Behind the stumps: 1 stumping (Phoebe Litchfield)

Lee anchored the chase from the very first over. She formed a 94-run opening stand with Shafali Verma that took all the pressure off Delhi Capitals. Her ability to find boundaries at will made the target of 155 look easy. By the time she got out, the match was virtually over.

Conclusion: What This Result Means

Delhi Capitals jumped up the WPL 2026 points table after this one-sided win. They opened their points table account with this win after 2 losses. Their deep batting lineup and mix of bowlers just overwhelmed UP Warriorz. Honestly, that opening stand from Lizelle Lee and Shafali Verma is something every other team will be nervous about.

UP Warriorz have some work to do, especially with their batting at the end. Meg Lanning and Harleen Deol put up a good fight, but collapsing for six wickets and just 22 runs in the last four overs really hurt them. Their bowlers didn’t help much either; they just couldn’t rein in Delhi’s openers and let too many runs slip away in the powerplay.
