The Gujarat Titans (GT) have officially appointed legendary Australian opener Matthew Hayden as their batting coach for the upcoming IPL 2026 season.
The franchise confirmed the landmark move on Tuesday, March 10, adding a world-class strategist and one of the game’s most dominant former openers to their support staff.
A Proven Winner Joins the Titans
Hayden, a two-time ICC ODI World Cup winner (2003 and 2007), joins the Ahmedabad-based franchise with one of the most decorated resumes in cricket history. Across 273 international matches, he amassed over 15,000 runs, establishing himself as one of the most dominant opening batters the game has ever seen.

He is no stranger to the Indian Premier League, having played 32 matches for Chennai Super Kings. During his stint, he famously won the Orange Cap in 2009 and helped the team lift the trophy in 2010.
Leadership Perspective
Gujarat Titans’ Director of Cricket, Vikram Solanki, emphasized that Hayden’s arrival marks a “pivotal phase” for the team.
“His experience at the highest level, coupled with his ability to mentor emerging talent, will be instrumental in shaping our batting identity for the seasons ahead,” Solanki stated.
The Hayden Philosophy
In his first official statement for the franchise, Hayden outlined a bold vision for the Titans’ batting unit:
“Good batting applies pressure. Great batting owns the game. That’s the standard we want to set at Gujarat Titans.”
GT Coaching Setup For IPL 2026
Hayden will replace fellow Australian Matthew Wade, who served as an assistant coach in the 2025 season. He joins a robust support staff led by Head Coach Ashish Nehra.
| Role | Personnel |

What’s Next For Gujarat Titans?
Following a 2025 season where they finished third in the league stage but were knocked out in the Eliminator, the Titans are eager to reclaim the title they first won in 2022.
With Shubman Gill continuing as captain, the addition of Hayden is expected to sharpen a batting order that includes stars like Sai Sudharsan, Jos Buttler, and Glenn Phillips.
The IPL 2026 season is scheduled to begin on March 28, 2026, with the final set for May 31.
