The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season will see one of the biggest changes in recent cricket history. Sanju Samson, the long-time captain of Rajasthan Royals, has officially moved to Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

The Major Trade Deal

Before the IPL 2026 auction, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals completed a massive “trading” deal. To get Sanju Samson, CSK traded away two of their star players:

  • Ravindra Jadeja
  • Sam Curran

Both Jadeja and Curran have now joined the Rajasthan Royals, while Samson has moved to the Yellow Army for a fee of 18 Crore.

Why Did Sanju Samson Move?

After playing for Rajasthan Royals for many years, Samson expressed a desire for a fresh start. Reports suggest he wanted to play as an opening batsman, a role that fits well with CSK’s current team plans.

CSK management also views Samson as a long-term successor to MS Dhoni for the wicket-keeper batsman role. While Ruturaj Gaikwad remains the captain of CSK, Samson will be a key leader and explosive top-order player for the team.

Sanju’s Performance And Stats

Sanju Samson enters the 2026 season in incredible form. He recently performed brilliantly in the 2026 T20 World Cup, scoring three consecutive fifties, including a huge 89-run knock in the semi-final against England and another fifty in the final against New Zealand.

Quick Career Stats:

  • Matches: 177
  • Total Runs: 4,704
  • Strike Rate: Over 139
  • Team for 2026: Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Looking Ahead to IPL 2026

Fans are excited to see Samson in the CSK jersey at Chepauk Stadium. With MS Dhoni still part of the squad to provide guidance, the addition of Samson makes Chennai one of the strongest contenders for the 2026 trophy.
