Mumbai Indians (MI) recently made a change to their squad for the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL). The team named Vaishnavi Sharma as a replacement for G Kamalini. This move comes after an injury ruled Kamalini out for the rest of the season.

Kamalini is a wicketkeeper-batter for the defending champions. She played five matches in the current tournament before her injury. The team has not shared specific details about her injury, but she can no longer participate in the remaining games.

Vaishnavi Sharma is a 20-year-old left-arm spinner. She joins the Mumbai Indians for 30 lakh rupees. Interestingly, Vaishnavi did not find a buyer during the mega auction in November. However, her recent form made her a top choice for the team. She performed very well in the senior women’s T20 tournament. In that event, she took 21 wickets in just 11 matches.

The young spinner also has experience on the international stage. She made her debut for India in December during a series against Sri Lanka. She took five wickets in five matches during that tour. Vaishnavi was also part of the India team that won the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2025.

This selection is great news for Vaishnavi. She was recently picked for India’s upcoming tour of Australia as well. Now, she has a chance to show her skills in the WPL. Mumbai Indians hope her bowling will strengthen their team as they push for another title. Fans look forward to seeing how the young star performs in the final stages of the season.
