The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 stage saw South Africa crush West Indies by 9 wickets in Match 47 at Ahmedabad on February 26. South Africa chased down 177 with 23 balls to spare. Captain Aiden Markram played a stunning, unbeaten knock of 82 off 46 balls and earned the Player of the Match award.

West Indies Innings: 176/8 in 20 Overs

West Indies had a nightmare start in the powerplay. They lost 4 wickets for just 52 runs in the first 6 overs. Brandon King hit 21 off 11 balls with 5 fours but fell to Lungi Ngidi. Captain Shai Hope smashed 16 off 6 balls before Kagiso Rabada got him. Shimron Hetmyer departed for just 2 runs.

Rovman Powell and Roston Chase both fell cheaply as West Indies slipped to 71/6 in the 9th over. Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd then rescued the innings with a brilliant partnership. Holder hit 49 off 31 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes before being run out in the last over.

Shepherd remained unbeaten on 52 off 37 balls. He reached his fifty with 3 fours and 4 sixes. Their 8th wicket stand added 89 runs and pushed West Indies to a competitive 176/8. Lungi Ngidi was the best South African bowler with 3/30 while Rabada and Bosch grabbed 2 wickets each.

South Africa Chase: 177/1 in 16.1 Overs

South Africa’s chase was a masterclass in power hitting. Captain Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock attacked from the first ball. They raced to 50 in just 30 balls with Markram scoring 43 of those runs. The powerplay ended with South Africa at 69/0.

De Kock smashed 47 off 24 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes before Roston Chase dismissed him in the 8th over. South Africa had already crossed 95 runs by then. Ryan Rickelton joined Markram and continued the assault on West Indies bowlers.

Markram reached his fifty off just 27 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. South Africa crossed 100 in 8.5 overs and 150 in 13.4 overs. Rickelton remained unbeaten on 45 off 28 balls. Markram finished with a stunning 82 not out as South Africa won with almost 4 overs to spare. The run rate of 10.94 underscored South Africa’s complete dominance in batting.
