Rajasthan Royals’ predicted playing XI for IPL 2026 features Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi opening, new captain Riyan Parag at three, Ravindra Jadeja as the spin all-rounder, and Jofra Archer spearheading the pace attack.

RR underwent the biggest overhaul in the off-season. They traded captain Sanju Samson to CSK in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. However, Curran’s groin injury has ruled him out of the entire season.

Dasun Shanaka replaces Curran as the overseas all-rounder. Under head coach Kumar Sangakkara and captain Parag, the Royals begin their campaign against CSK in Guwahati on March 30. The squad has 25 players.

So, what does RR’s strongest XI look like this season? Here is a position-by-position breakdown.

1. Yashasvi Jaiswal (Opener)

Yashasvi Jaiswal opens the batting and is RR’s most valuable player. He scored 559 runs in IPL 2025 with six half-centuries, carrying RR’s batting almost single-handedly.

With 2,166 IPL runs in 67 matches at a strike rate of 152.9, including 2 centuries and 15 fifties, Jaiswal is now one of India’s most destructive T20 openers.

Retained at ₹18 crore, Jaiswal’s powerplay aggression defines how RR build their innings. When he fires, the rest of the batting lineup has the luxury of playing around him.

2. Vaibhav Suryavanshi (Opener)

Vaibhav Suryavanshi opens alongside Jaiswal. The teenager scored 252 runs in 7 matches during IPL 2025 at a stunning strike rate of 206.55.

He then smashed 175 off 80 balls in the U19 World Cup 2026 final against England, breaking multiple records. He also holds the record for the fastest IPL century by an Indian.

Retained at just ₹1.10 crore, Suryavanshi might be the single best value pick across all 10 IPL squads. A generational talent at a fraction of the cost.

3. Riyan Parag (Captain, No. 3)

Riyan Parag takes over as captain from Sanju Samson and bats at three. In IPL 2025, he scored 393 runs and chipped in with three wickets using his handy off-spin.

Retained at ₹14 crore, Parag brings sharp fielding, part-time off-spin, and the aggressive mindset RR have always valued. At 24, captaincy should bring the best out of him.

The Guwahati boy opening RR’s campaign in his hometown against CSK adds a nice touch of narrative. IPL scriptwriters couldn’t have planned it better.

4. Dhruv Jurel (WK, No. 4)

Dhruv Jurel keeps wicket and bats at four. Since his RR debut in 2023, Jurel has accumulated over 600 IPL runs at a strike rate of 153.85.

Retained at ₹14 crore, Jurel’s composure under pressure has grown significantly after his India Test debut. He’s no longer just a promising talent. He’s a proven performer.

Irfan Pathan even suggested Jurel at number three, showing how highly the cricket fraternity rates his ability to anchor innings.

5. Shimron Hetmyer (Finisher)

Shimron Hetmyer plays the finisher’s role at five. The West Indian left-hander arrives in career-best form after the T20 World Cup 2026, where he smashed 19 sixes in a single edition.

He also hit the West Indies’ fastest T20 World Cup fifty off just 19 balls against Zimbabwe. That’s the kind of form that makes bowlers lose sleep.

Retained at ₹11 crore, Hetmyer’s ability to clear any ground from ball one makes him the perfect complement to Jurel’s steadier approach at four.

6. Ravindra Jadeja (Spin All-Rounder)

Ravindra Jadeja returns to where his IPL career began in 2008. The trade from CSK brings one of T20 cricket’s most complete all-rounders back to the Royals.

Across 254 IPL matches, Jadeja has scored 2,607 runs at a strike rate of 130.29 and taken 170 wickets with a best of 5/16.

His revised salary at RR is ₹14 crore. Jadeja’s left-arm spin will be lethal on turning tracks in Guwahati and Jaipur. Add his electric fielding, and he’s worth every rupee.

7. Dasun Shanaka (All-Rounder, Sam Curran’s Replacement)

Dasun Shanaka steps in as Sam Curran’s replacement after the Englishman was ruled out with a groin injury. The Sri Lankan captain arrives in red-hot form from the T20 World Cup 2026.

His unbeaten 76 off 31 balls against Pakistan at the World Cup showed exactly what he brings: destructive hitting under pressure and medium-pace bowling. RR needed a like-for-like replacement, and Shanaka fits.

8. Jofra Archer (Fast Bowler)

Jofra Archer is the spearhead of RR’s pace attack. When fit, his 150 kmph pace, deadly yorkers, and deceptive slower balls make him the most dangerous T20 fast bowler in the world.

Retained at ₹12.50 crore, Archer’s fitness remains the only question mark. If he stays on the park, RR’s bowling attack becomes one of the most lethal in the tournament.

9. Ravi Bishnoi (Leg Spinner)

Ravi Bishnoi is RR’s marquee auction buy. The leg-spinner was signed for ₹7.20 crore after a bidding war with CSK and SRH. He brings 72 IPL wickets in 77 matches with a best of 3/24.

Bishnoi also has 64 T20I wickets at an economy of 7.41 for India. His googlies are among the hardest to pick in world cricket right now. Alongside Jadeja, he forms a spin partnership that can dominate the middle overs.

10. Nandre Burger (Fast Bowler)

Nandre Burger provides right-arm pace and swing. The South African quick was retained by RR and offers a different dimension alongside Archer’s express speed.

Retained at ₹3.50 crore, Burger’s ability to swing the new ball both ways gives Parag a genuine wicket-taking option in the powerplay. His partnership with Archer creates a pace duo that batters won’t relish facing.

11. Sandeep Sharma (Fast Bowler)

Sandeep Sharma completes RR’s playing XI as the experienced Indian seamer. The veteran medium-pacer excels in the death overs and brings years of IPL experience to the bowling unit.

His craft with the older ball and ability to execute under pressure make him the ideal bowler for overs 16 to 20. Not the flashiest pick, but often the most effective.

Impact Player Options

  • Tushar Deshpande is a strong bowling impact player option. The medium-pacer claimed 9 wickets in 10 IPL 2025 games for CSK and provides partnership-breaking ability when RR need an extra seamer.
  • Shubham Dubey offers a batting-heavy impact option. The aggressive left-hander is known for powerful hitting and can come in as a substitute when RR are chasing a big target.
  • Donovan Ferreira, traded from Delhi Capitals at ₹1 crore, gives RR overseas middle-order muscle. He can replace Shanaka on pitches where RR want a more batting-oriented lineup.

Since all four overseas slots are filled in the starting XI, the impact player under IPL rules must be an Indian. That makes Tushar and Shubham Dubey the primary options on most matchdays.

Overseas Players Breakdown

IPL rules allow four overseas players in the playing XI. RR’s likely four overseas picks are:

Shimron Hetmyer (West Indies)

Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka, replacement)

Jofra Archer (England)

Nandre Burger (South Africa)

Kwena Maphaka (South Africa), Lhuan-dre Pretorius (South Africa), Adam Milne (New Zealand), and Donovan Ferreira (South Africa) sit as overseas backups. If Archer needs rest, Maphaka’s raw pace can fill the gap. Pretorius offers a keeper-batter alternative.

Conclusion: RR’s New Era Begins With Parag, Jadeja, and Fearless Youth

RR’s predicted playing XI for IPL 2026 marks a fresh start for the inaugural champions. The Jaiswal-Suryavanshi opening pair is among the most explosive in the league. Jadeja’s return adds all-round experience, and Archer’s pace can rattle any lineup.

Curran’s absence hurts, but Shanaka’s World Cup form softens the blow. Bishnoi and Jadeja give Parag a spin attack that can strangle opponents in the middle overs.

If young captain Parag gets his combinations right and the overseas stars deliver, the Rajasthan Royals could surprise everyone in their hunt for a second IPL trophy. Guwahati and Jaipur are waiting. The Royals are ready.
