The Madras High Court recently issued a new order in the legal battle involving cricket star MS Dhoni. The court asked Dhoni to pay ₹10 lakh to cover the costs of transcribing audio and video evidence. This decision comes during a long-running defamation suit filed by the former Indian captain.

Dhoni filed the lawsuit several years ago against a retired police officer and a television network. He claimed that they made false and damaging statements linking him to the 2013 IPL betting and spot-fixing scandal. To prove his case, Dhoni submitted various compact discs containing news reports and interviews.

During the proceedings, the court noted that it needed written transcripts of the recordings to proceed. Translating and typing out these records is a massive task. Therefore, the court directed Dhoni to deposit the funds for the professional transcription services. The judges clarified that this payment is specifically for the technical work required to process the evidence.

The legal dispute focuses on protecting Dhoni’s reputation. He maintains that the allegations against him were baseless and caused significant harm to his image. On the other hand, the defendants argue that their reports were based on investigative findings.

This case highlights the slow and detailed nature of high-profile legal battles in India. By ordering the payment, the court ensures that all recorded evidence is officially documented. Once the team completes the transcriptions, the court will resume hearing arguments from both sides. Fans and legal experts continue to watch this case closely as it nears a final resolution.
