Cricket fans are waiting eagerly for the IPL 2026 schedule. The tournament usually starts in late March. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has not yet released the official dates. This delay is causing some worry among fans and teams.

The main reason for the hold-up is the upcoming elections. Several Indian states will hold Assembly elections soon. These states include West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Assam. These regions host popular teams such as the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings.

Elections require a lot of police and security staff. These same officers must also manage the large crowds at cricket stadiums. It is hard for the government to do both at the same time.

The board wants to avoid changing dates later. If they release a schedule now, they might have to move matches if election dates clash. This would hurt travel plans for players and fans. There are also other small issues. Some teams are still fixing their home ground deals. For example, Rajasthan and Bengaluru are still confirming their stadium details.

The board might release the schedule in two parts. They may announce the first few weeks of matches first. They will then share the rest once the election dates are final. This plan helps everyone prepare better. While the wait is long, it ensures the tournament runs safely and smoothly for everyone involved.
