Gujarat Titans created history by winning the IPL in their very first season. Hardik Pandya led them past Rajasthan Royals in the final. This was also the year when two new teams joined the league: Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants.

Notable Records And Milestones

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings share the record for most IPL titles with five each. MS Dhoni won all five of CSK’s titles as captain. Rohit Sharma matched that by leading Mumbai Indians to five wins as captain.

The highest points total in a single season is 22. Rajasthan Royals reached it in 2008, Punjab Kings in 2014, Delhi Capitals in 2012, and both CSK and Mumbai Indians in 2013. On the other side, the lowest total in a single season is just 4 points. Delhi Capitals in 2014 and Deccan Chargers in 2008 both finished with that record.

Gujarat Titans did something remarkable by winning the title in their debut season in 2022. Royal Challengers Bengaluru broke through in 2025 after 17 years of waiting for their first title. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals remain the only original teams that have never won the IPL.
