Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowler Khaleel Ahmed will miss the rest of the IPL 2026 season. The left-arm fast bowler suffered a serious injury during a match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 14.
This news is a big loss for the team because Khaleel was a regular player in their starting lineup.
Details of the Injury
The injury happened at the Chepauk stadium during the 17th over of the KKR innings. Khaleel was running to bowl the final ball when he felt sharp pain in his right thigh. He could not finish his over and had to leave the field immediately.

Medical tests later showed that Khaleel has a Grade 2 tear in his right quadriceps muscle. Doctors say the injury is serious and involves a complete tear of a part of the muscle. He will need 10 to 12 weeks to recover and finish his rehabilitation. This timeline means he cannot play any more matches in this year’s tournament.
Impact on Chennai Super Kings
Khaleel Ahmed was performing well for CSK before the injury. In the match against KKR, he took the important wicket of Sunil Narine and gave away only 17 runs in three overs. He had played in all five of the team’s matches so far this season.
CSK must now find a replacement for Khaleel in their bowling attack. The team is entering a busy part of the tournament where every match is important for the points table. Gurjapneet Singh finished Khaleel’s over during the match, but the team management will need to decide on a long-term plan for their pace bowling unit.
