The Delhi Capitals’ campaign in the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) has hit a significant hurdle as the franchise confirmed that Deeya Yadav and Mamatha Madiwala have been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
The duo, who were expected to play vital roles in the Capitals’ middle order and bowling department, respectively, have sustained injuries that will see them sidelined during the crucial business end of the tournament.

Impact On The Squad
The loss of Deeya Yadav is particularly poignant; at just 16, she made history earlier this month by becoming the youngest player to debut in the WPL, during a match against the Mumbai Indians. Her explosive potential in the middle order provided a spark that the team will now have to find elsewhere. Meanwhile, Mamatha Madiwala’s absence thins the domestic bowling resources at a time when Delhi is fighting to secure a playoff spot.
Currently sitting in the middle of the points table, the Capitals are in a tight race with Mumbai Indians, UP Warriorz, and Gujarat Giants. This setback follows the earlier pre-tournament withdrawal of Australian star Annabel Sutherland, further testing the squad’s depth.
Replacements Announced
In a quick move to stabilize the roster, the Delhi Capitals management has named Pragati Singh and Eddla Srujana as replacements.
- Pragati Singh: A hard-hitting batter from Punjab who was her state’s second-highest run-scorer in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy.
- Eddla Srujana: A right-arm seamer from Hyderabad who has previously spent time with the franchise as a net bowler, ensuring she is already familiar with the team’s environment.
DC had also lost the services of Australia’s all-rounder Annabel Sutherland before the tournament started. She had opted out for personal reasons. DC are currently fourth in the points table with two wins and three defeats. They next play RCB on Saturday evening.
