Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined 24 lakh after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their match against Chennai Super Kings.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council announced the penalty following the match at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, April 3.
Heavy Fines for Repeat Offence
This was the second time this season that the Punjab Kings failed to bowl their overs within the required time limit. Because it was a repeat violation, the league imposed a stricter penalty than the first instance.

Under the IPL Code of Conduct, Shreyas Iyer was fined 24 lakh. Every other player in the playing eleven, including the Impact Player, was also fined. Each teammate must pay 6 lakh or 25 percent of their match fee, whichever is less.
Performance Amid Disciplinary Action
The fine came on a night when Punjab Kings secured a victory on the field. They chased down a target of 210 runs to win the match by five wickets. Shreyas Iyer played a major role in the win by scoring 50 runs off 29 balls.
Earlier in the game, Chennai Super Kings scored 209 for five. This total was built on a strong start by Ayush Mhatre, who scored 73 runs. Despite the high score, Punjab Kings reached the target with eight balls remaining to earn their second win of the season.
League Rules on Match Timing
The IPL monitors match timings to ensure games finish on schedule. While the team celebrated their win, the league officials confirmed that the slow over-rate breach was a serious matter. Punjab Kings will need to manage their time better in future games to avoid further disciplinary action.
