Sunrisers Hyderabad have signed England pacer David Payne as an injury replacement for Jack Edwards ahead of IPL 2026. Payne will join SRH for INR 1.5 crore.

Edwards, an Australian all-rounder, was bought by SRH for INR 3 crore at the IPL 2026 mini auction but has been ruled out due to injury.

Who is David Payne?

David Alan Payne is a 35-year-old left-arm fast-medium bowler from England. He made his debut for Gloucestershire in 2009 and has been a key bowler for the county since then.

Who is David Payne?

Payne has played 233 T20 matches and taken 304 wickets at an average of 21.16. He is Gloucestershire’s all-time leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket.

He has played one ODI for England, which came in 2022 against the Netherlands. He shared the new ball with David Willey and took one wicket in that match.

A Strong Record in Franchise Cricket

Payne has played franchise cricket across several leagues around the world.

In the 2024 T20 Blast, he was the leading wicket-taker, picking up 33 wickets in 17 innings. He has also featured for Welsh Fire in the Hundred.

In the BBL, Payne played two spells with the Perth Scorchers, with a stint at Adelaide Strikers in between. He was named Player of the Match in the BBL15 final, taking 3 for 18 to help Perth Scorchers win their sixth title against the Sydney Sixers.

He has also played two seasons of the ILT20 for Desert Vipers.

SRH to Miss Pat Cummins at the Start of IPL 2026

SRH are already set to begin the tournament without regular captain Pat Cummins. Ishan Kishan has been named interim captain in his absence.

SRH open their IPL 2026 campaign against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 28.
