PSL 2026 venues have been reduced to just two stadiums: Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi. Originally, six cities were set to host matches, but the PCB revised the schedule on March 22, 2026 due to Pakistan’s fuel crisis triggered by the ongoing Middle East conflict.

All 44 matches of HBL PSL 11 will now be played behind closed doors across these two venues. Here is everything you need to know about both stadiums, the original venue plan, and what it means for the teams.

PSL 2026 Venues At A Glance

Before diving into the details of each ground, here is a quick snapshot of the PSL 2026 venue split.

The matches are split evenly between the two cities. Lahore hosts the first leg of league matches (March 26 to April 6) plus the back-end fixtures and three playoff games. Karachi takes over from April 8 to April 19 and hosts the Qualifier.

1. Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore

Gaddafi Stadium is the crown jewel of Pakistan cricket and the primary venue for PSL 2026. It hosts the tournament’s opening match between Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen on March 26, as well as the Final on May 3.

Simply put, if any ground in Pakistan can be called cricket’s spiritual home, it’s this one.

Why Gaddafi Stadium Is the PSL’s Flagship Venue

Gaddafi Stadium has hosted the PSL Final in four of the last five seasons. It also hosted the 1996 Cricket World Cup Final between Australia and Sri Lanka.

The stadium underwent a major renovation in 2024-25 ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This upgrade increased capacity from 21,500 to 34,000, brought stands closer to the playing area by 20 feet, installed LED floodlights, and added a new pavilion building.

As a result, the Gaddafi Stadium in 2026 is a completely different beast from what it was even two years ago.

Pitch and Playing Conditions at Gaddafi Stadium

The Lahore pitch is generally batting-friendly, especially in limited-overs cricket. Teams winning the toss at Gaddafi Stadium tend to bat first to exploit the true bounce and pace on offer early on.

However, the new ball does offer swing, particularly during evening matches under lights. As the match progresses, spinners come into play, making the middle overs a tactical battle.

For PSL 2026, expect high-scoring encounters here, especially in the night games when dew could make chasing easier in the second innings.

The marquee Lahore vs Karachi rivalry features twice at Gaddafi Stadium (March 29 and April 23). On top of that, both Eliminators and the Final will be played here.

Night games at Lahore start at 7:00 PM PKT, while day games begin at 2:30 PM PKT.

2. National Bank Cricket Arena (National Stadium), Karachi

National Bank Cricket Arena (commonly still referred to as National Stadium Karachi) is the second host venue for PSL 2026. It takes over from Lahore for the middle leg of the tournament, hosting matches from April 8 onwards.

Known as the fortress of Pakistan cricket, Pakistan went unbeaten in 34 Tests here between 1955 and 2000. That’s a record few grounds in the world can match.

Karachi Stadium’s Recent Upgrades and History

Like Gaddafi Stadium, the National Stadium also received a significant facelift for the Champions Trophy 2025. The renovation included new LED floodlights, upgraded guardrails, a new pavilion with 24 hospitality boxes, and an increase in capacity from 28,000 to around 34,000.

This ground also holds a unique distinction: Sachin Tendulkar and Waqar Younis both made their Test debuts here in November 1989. That single match launched two of cricket’s greatest careers.

In PSL history, the venue has hosted 78 matches through 10 seasons, with an average first-innings score of around 158.

Pitch and Playing Conditions at National Stadium Karachi

Karachi pitches have traditionally offered something for both batters and bowlers. In T20 cricket, the surface tends to slow down as the match progresses, which can make defending totals slightly easier compared to Lahore.

Consequently, spinners often play a bigger role in Karachi. Teams with strong spin options, like Islamabad United (Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim) and Hyderabad Kingsmen (Maheesh Theekshana, Adil Rashid), could have an advantage here.

The PSL 2026 Qualifier is scheduled at this venue on April 28, which means the top two teams will battle it out on Karachi’s unique surface.

National Stadium Karachi PSL 2026 Match Schedule Highlights

Karachi hosts all Hyderabad Kingsmen home matches and the Karachi Kings derbies against Peshawar Zalmi. The mid-tournament block (April 8-19) features 15 consecutive matches here before the schedule splits between both cities in the final week.

Original PSL 2026 Venue Plan: What Was Supposed to Happen?

Before the schedule revision, PSL 2026 was set to be played across six cities for the first time. Here was the original venue distribution

VenueCityPlanned MatchesStatus in Revised Schedule
Gaddafi StadiumLahore15Active (expanded to 22)
Rawalpindi Cricket StadiumRawalpindi11Cancelled
Iqbal StadiumFaisalabad7Cancelled (PSL debut was planned)
National Bank Cricket ArenaKarachi6Active (expanded to 22)
Multan Cricket StadiumMultan4Cancelled
Imran Khan Cricket StadiumPeshawar1Cancelled (PSL debut was planned)

Faisalabad and Peshawar were both set to host PSL matches for the first time ever. That makes the venue reduction particularly disappointing for fans in those cities.

Similarly, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was supposed to host the highest number of matches after Lahore (11 games) and was the designated home ground for both Islamabad United and the new Rawalpindi Pindiz. It was also scheduled to host the Qualifier.

Why Were PSL 2026 Venues Reduced to Two Cities?

The PCB announced on March 22, 2026 that the tournament would be restricted to Lahore and Karachi only. The reason? A nationwide fuel shortage caused by the ongoing conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran in the Middle East.

The Pakistani government had already implemented measures like school closures and work-from-home mandates to reduce public movement and conserve fuel. Hosting cricket matches across six cities would have required significant logistical movement of teams, broadcast crews, and support staff.

Additionally, the PCB confirmed the following changes along with the venue reduction:

Key Changes Due to Venue Reduction

All matches will be played behind closed doors without spectators. The PCB stated they cannot allow 30,000 people in stadiums daily during the crisis.

The planned opening ceremony has been cancelled to cut costs. Additionally, fans who had already purchased tickets will receive full refunds.

Furthermore, night match timings shifted to 7:00 PM PKT (from the earlier 8:00 PM), and day games now start at 2:30 PM PKT.

The Qualifier, originally assigned to Rawalpindi, has been moved to Karachi. Meanwhile, Lahore retains both Eliminators and the Final.

Lahore vs Karachi: How Do the Two PSL 2026 Venues Compare?

Both stadiums have been recently upgraded and are world-class facilities. However, there are notable differences that could influence match outcomes.

For fantasy cricket players and match predictions, the venue split is crucial. Teams heavy on pace, like Rawalpindi Pindiz (Naseem Shah, Mohammad Amir), could thrive more in Lahore. Meanwhile, spin-dominant sides may prefer the Karachi leg.

How Does the Venue Reduction Affect PSL 2026 Teams?

The biggest losers from the venue change are the new franchises. Rawalpindi Pindiz lose their home ground entirely, having been set to play at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium for 11 matches.

Similarly, Islamabad United also miss out on their traditional home venue. Both teams now play all their matches in Lahore and Karachi, where neither has a true home advantage.

Lahore Qalandars benefit the most from the revised schedule. They get to play 22 matches worth of cricket at their home ground, Gaddafi Stadium, including the Final.

Karachi Kings are the other obvious beneficiaries, with the National Stadium now hosting an equal share of the tournament’s matches.

Meanwhile, Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans lose all their planned home games. For Zalmi, this is especially painful since Peshawar was set to host its first-ever PSL match on March 28.

PSL 2026 Match Timings at Both Venues

The revised schedule features two types of match slots:

AspectInfo
Night Matches7:00 PM PKT (2:00 PM GMT / 7:30 PM IST)
Day Matches2:30 PM PKT (9:30 AM GMT / 3:00 PM IST)
Double-Header DaysDay game at 2:30 PM + Night game at 7:00 PM

For Indian viewers, the night matches at 7:30 PM IST are perfectly timed for prime-time viewing. Day matches at 3:00 PM IST also fall in a convenient afternoon slot.

Multiple double-header days are scheduled, particularly during the Lahore leg (March 28-29, April 2) and the split phase (April 21-26). These are great for fans who want a full day of PSL cricket.

Where to Watch PSL 2026 from India and Pakistan?

In Pakistan, PTV Sports, Geo Super, and Ten Sports will broadcast the matches live. Walee Technologies holds the broadcasting and streaming rights for the season.

For Indian fans, the broadcasting rights for India were withheld during the bidding process. Official broadcast partners for India are expected to be confirmed soon. Fans may need to rely on streaming platforms for access in the meantime.

PSL 2026 Ticket Refund Details

Since all matches are being played behind closed doors, the PCB confirmed that fans who purchased tickets for any venue will receive full refunds. Tickets had been available since March 17 through TCS.

Additionally, the PCB stated that franchises will also be compensated for the financial losses caused by the venue and schedule changes. The behind-closed-doors format means zero gate revenue for all eight teams.

Conclusion: PCB To Scale Down To Lahore And Karachi Only

The PSL 2026 venues story is a tale of what could have been. Six cities, including two debutant hosts in Faisalabad and Peshawar, were all set to welcome the expanded eight-team tournament. Instead, regional conflict forced the PCB to scale down to Lahore and Karachi only.

Despite the limitations, both grounds are freshly renovated, world-class facilities. The quality of cricket won’t suffer. However, the absence of fans in empty stadiums will definitely change the atmosphere. For now, viewers in India and Pakistan will have to enjoy HBL PSL 11 through their screens.
