Gujarat Titans secured a professional 8-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings in Match 37 of IPL 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 26.

A clinical bowling masterclass led by Kagiso Rabada broke the back of the CSK top order early, before a dominant half-century from Sai Sudharsan ensured the Titans chased down the target with 20 balls to spare, silencing the Chepauk crowd.

CSK Innings: 158/7 in 20 Overs

After being put in to bat, Chennai Super Kings suffered a nightmare start. Kagiso Rabada was unplayable in the Powerplay, dismissing Sanju Samson and Urvil Patel in quick succession. When Impact Player Sarfaraz Khan fell for a golden duck to Mohammed Siraj, CSK were reeling at 26/3.

Ruturaj Gaikwad – 74 off 60 balls

Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad played a lone, gritty hand, scoring an unbeaten 74 off 60 balls. He stabilized the innings alongside Shivam Dube (22) and Jamie Overton (18), but the disciplined GT attack—led by Siraj (1/23) and Jason Holder (0/22)—prevented any late-innings acceleration. CSK finished on a sub-par 158.

Sai Sudharsan – 87 off 46 balls

Following Gill’s departure, Jos Buttler played a supporting role with a steady 39 off 30 balls*. Sudharsan’s aggressive strokeplay kept the required rate well under control. Though he fell just before the finish line to Akeal Hosein, Washington Sundar hit the winning runs to seal a dominant 2-point performance for the visitors.

Key Highlights

  • The Rabada Spell: Kagiso Rabada’s 3/25 effectively decided the game in the first four overs, as his pace and bounce proved too much for the CSK top order.
  • Gaikwad’s Anchor: Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 74* was a display of immense patience, though his strike rate was limited by the regular fall of wickets at the other end.
  • Sudharsan’s Dominance: Sai Sudharsan’s strike rate of 189.13 turned a potentially tricky chase into a stroll, further solidifying his reputation as GT’s most consistent batter.

Player of the Match

Kagiso Rabada (GT): Awarded for his match-defining spell of 3/25. His early breakthroughs dismantled the CSK batting core and ensured the Titans were chasing a total well below the par score at Chepauk.
