Alembic Warriors (AWS)

Alembic Warriors enter BPL 2026 as the defending champions. Last June, the side beat Ami Super Avengers by four wickets in a tense final at Kotambi Stadium. Additionally, AWS opened the 2026 season with a 19-run win over Pruthvi Panthers on June 1.

Notably, Ninad Rathva captained the franchise in 2025 and remains a fixture in the Baroda Ranji setup. Furthermore, he currently sits on top of the run charts with 56 runs from the opening fixture.

Ami Super Avengers (ASV)

Ami Super Avengers finished as runners-up in BPL 2025 and qualified for the final through Net Run Rate after the Qualifier 2 washout. Moreover, the franchise leans on Baroda all-rounder Atit Sheth, who has 1,706 first-class runs and 132 wickets for Baroda.

A4 Power Strikers (APT)

A4 Power Strikers reached the Eliminator in 2025 before bowing out to Pruthvi Panthers. Their second match in BPL 2026 against ASV on June 1 was abandoned at 49/3 in 7.5 overs while chasing 159. Consequently, the team picked up just one point from the opening day.

Pruthvi Panthers (PTP)

Pruthvi Panthers beat A4 Power Strikers via the VJD method in the 2025 Eliminator before exiting in Qualifier 2. However, the side started BPL 2026 on a low note, losing the opener by 19 runs to Alembic Warriors despite posting 149/8 in 20 overs.

Diamond Dazzlers (DDZ)

Diamond Dazzlers were the only franchise that failed to reach the 2025 playoffs. Therefore, the 2026 season offers a clean slate. Their first fixture of the new season is against Alembic Warriors on June 2, 2026.

Tournament Format and Playoffs

Baroda Premier League 2026 sticks with the format introduced in Season 1. Each of the five teams plays the other four sides twice in the league phase, giving every franchise eight league fixtures.

Subsequently, the top four sides on the points table progress to the playoffs. As a result, only one team misses the knockout stage.

The playoff path is straightforward:

  • Qualifier 1: Top of table vs. second-placed side
  • Eliminator: Third-placed side vs. fourth-placed side
  • Qualifier 2: Loser of Qualifier 1 vs. winner of Eliminator
  • Final: Winner of Qualifier 1 vs. winner of Qualifier 2

Importantly, the league still operates under the BCA’s allocation model for at least one more season. In other words, players are distributed by the association rather than chosen at auction. Furthermore, an IPL-style auction may follow from the third edition onward.

Kotambi Stadium: The Only Venue for BPL 2026

Every fixture of BPL 2026 takes place at the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium, also called Kotambi Stadium or the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium. Specifically, the ground opened on December 22, 2024, with a Women’s ODI between India and West Indies.

Historically, the surface has favoured batters. For example, four of four WPL 2025 matches at this ground were won by sides chasing, with an average first-innings score of 162.25. Consequently, BPL captains often choose to chase under lights.
