Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Ishan Kishan has received support to continue leading the team even after Pat Cummins returns to action in IPL 2026.

Former India cricketer Sanjay Bangar praised Kishan’s captaincy after SRH’s 47-run win over Delhi Capitals in Hyderabad. Bangar said Kishan has shown good tactical understanding and has used his bowlers well in pressure situations. He also said an Indian captain can bring continuity during a long tournament.

Cummins Nears Return For Rajasthan Royals Match

Pat Cummins had returned to Australia earlier this month for follow-up checks on a lumbar stress injury. Reports said the scans confirmed that the injury has healed, and he is now targeting a comeback against Rajasthan Royals on April 25 in Jaipur.

Cummins has been away while Kishan handled captaincy duties for Hyderabad in the ongoing season.

Bangar Highlights Kishan’s Calm Approach

Speaking about Kishan’s leadership, Bangar said the wicketkeeper-batter has stayed calm and clear in his decisions on the field. He pointed to Kishan’s bowling changes in the win over Delhi Capitals as an example of smart captaincy.

Bangar also said there is some uncertainty over how much bowling workload Cummins can manage for the rest of the tournament because of his recent injury concerns. On that basis, he backed Kishan to remain captain for stability.

SRH Beat Delhi Capitals by 47 Runs

Sunrisers Hyderabad produced a strong all-round display against Delhi Capitals in their last match. SRH scored 242 for 2 after being sent in to bat. Abhishek Sharma led the innings with an unbeaten 135 off 68 balls, while Heinrich Klaasen made 37 off 13 balls.

Delhi Capitals fought back through Nitish Rana, who scored 57, and KL Rahul, who made 37. But SRH kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Eshan Malinga finished with 4 for 32 as Delhi Capitals ended on 195 for 9, giving Hyderabad a 47-run win.

What This Means for SRH

The discussion around SRH’s captaincy now becomes important as Cummins moves closer to full fitness. Kishan has led the side in Cummins’ absence and has now been publicly backed to continue in the role.

For now, SRH will focus on their next match, while the team management decides whether Cummins returns only as a player or also resumes captaincy immediately.
