Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have signed South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee for the rest of the IPL 2026 season. The team announced this move on Saturday, April 18.
Coetzee joins the squad to replace David Payne, who cannot play any more matches this year.
Reason for the Change
David Payne is leaving the tournament due to an ankle injury. The English left-arm bowler played only two matches for Hyderabad this season and took two wickets.

Payne was actually an injury replacement himself, having joined earlier to cover for Jack Edwards. Because his injury will take time to heal, SRH had to look for a new overseas fast bowler.
About Gerald Coetzee
Gerald Coetzee is a 24-year-old right-arm pacer known for his high speed. He has a lot of experience playing for South Africa in all formats of cricket. Coetzee is not new to the IPL, as he has played for Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans in previous seasons. In his 14 career IPL matches, he has taken 15 wickets.
The South African bowler will join the Hyderabad camp for a fee of 2 crore. His arrival provides a fresh option for the team’s bowling unit as they prepare for their upcoming matches. SRH is currently pushing for a top spot in the points table and will benefit from Coetzee’s aggressive bowling style.
