How the Points System Works

Understanding the points system is essential for reading the standings correctly. Here is how teams earn or lose points in this tournament.

Table: Points System Breakdown

Match ResultPoints Awarded
Win2 points
Tie / No Result1 point each
Loss0 points

If two or more teams finish on the same number of points, then Net Run Rate (NRR) acts as the tiebreaker. Therefore, winning by big margins matters just as much as winning itself.

What Is Net Run Rate (NRR)?

Net Run Rate measures the difference between a team’s scoring rate and the scoring rate against them. Specifically, it follows this formula:

NRR = (Total Runs Scored / Total Overs Faced) – (Total Runs Conceded / Total Overs Bowled)

Because of this, a team that wins by a large margin will see its NRR climb significantly. Conversely, narrow losses hurt NRR less than big defeats. As a result, NRR often decides playoff spots when teams finish level on points.

What the Points Table Means for Qualification

The points table directly determines which teams advance to the playoff stage on 23 May 2026. Here is how the group standings translate into the knockout rounds.

How Teams Progress From Groups to Playoffs

After each group’s round-robin phase, the teams ranked 1st to 5th cross over into playoffs. In particular, the Group A topper faces the Group B topper in the Final. Likewise, 2nd plays 2nd (3rd Place Play-Off), 3rd plays 3rd (5th Place Play-Off), and 4th plays 4th (7th Place Play-Off).

Table: Playoff Crossover Structure

Playoff MatchTeamsSignificance
FinalGroup A #1 vs Group B #1Winner qualifies for Europe Qualifier 2027
3rd Place Play-OffGroup A #2 vs Group B #2Determines 3rd/4th overall placing
5th Place Play-OffGroup A #3 vs Group B #3Determines 5th/6th overall placing
7th Place Play-OffGroup A #4 vs Group B #4Determines 7th/8th overall placing

Consequently, finishing first in the group is critical. Only the tournament winner (the team that wins the Final) advances to the Europe Qualifier 2027. Because of this, even a second-place finish in the group still gives a team a shot through the Final.
